Umicore和Hydro将合资建立太阳能级多晶硅厂，新公司将命名为HyCore，总部设在挪威的Porsgrunn。

HyCore的第一步将在Porsgrunn的Her?ya的Hydro的工业园区建造一个实验工厂，将于2008年完工，年产能20吨，计划耗资2600万欧元，若计划成功，将同样在Her?ya扩产，2010年能够达到规模化生产。

Hydro的领导人Einar Glomnes说：“近年来高纯硅的需求增长极为迅速并且有望在今后的几年内持续下去，我们认为我们的投资将得到非常好的效果。”

HyCore将采用独有的技术来占据今后市场的主动，与传统技术相比更加节能，拥有好几项专利技术。

Umicore的首席技术官Marc Van Sande说：“Umicore和Hydro在原料科学。工业化流程和科技研发方面的技术诀窍（Konw-how）互补不足，我们配合的相当好，我确实相信我们能与Hydro建立长期的良好合作关系并从中获益。”

这项计划于15个月之前开始，Umicore和Hydro分别拥有新公司的51%和49%的股份，同时Umicore也将得到之前研究和开发的费用250万欧元，Umicore的前半导体晶圆业务总经理将担任新公司的负责人。
